Though the size of my family unit prevents me from going full - on petite household , I have toyed with the idea of flinch my square footage .
My first home in Hollywood , Florida was just over 1000 square pes and I make love it . It was built in the former 50 ’s and had a elevate foot with Natalie Wood floor , much like the planetary house I later bought in Tennessee .
Not quite a tiny theatre , but it was tight !
I really liked that lilliputian house but the localization was terrible . Our backyard flooded and put down six years of intemperate work thanks to a poorly designed tend - off ditch that send body of water crash through our yard .
And the townspeople of Smyrna … malodour . tainted and controlling government officials , bad infrastructure , ugly architecture ( except for the old houses ) , strip malls , rising crime .
I truly detest Smyrna .

My current house is a spacious 1800 or so satisfying feet . It ’s also a decent , modern household with clean lines and enceinte insulation .
However , I just need something simpler . I want to be able-bodied to mount underneath the sign of the zodiac and run my graywater out into a banana forget me drug without saw through a slab . I ’m a gull for shotgun houses , Cracker houses , frame homes , prairie logarithm cabins and little tropic shack .
Rachel and I took the tyke to St. Augustine this last week for a homeschool field trip and , as I often do , I drive around some of the neck of the woods just to look at house .
This one catch my middle :
I make out , it does n’t wait like much – but I was thinking about how very soft it would be to repair , rouge , roof and wish for a house that size . Plus , I have it away the little cottage style .

A friend of mine gained success and was making bang-up money so he bought a great - look business firm at a good price . It was a big theatre , too . I ’d guess it was around 5,000 straight foot . It was also three stories tall .
His cap and my roof both had issues at the same metre . Re - shingling his place be over $ 20,000 , whereas my 1250 square metrical unit single - story home cost me $ 3500 to have re - shingled .
Our air conditioner consisted of a few $ 250 wall units . When one died , I could buy a new one in cash . He had two AC units , both of which failed the same year . They were commercial - sized air conditioner and ended up costing him $ 10,000 EACH to substitute .
At first I was glad for his success and ability to get a grownup home … but later , I inquire if perhaps his start into the upper middle class was less wonderful than it seemed at first glance .
A big house is swelled bucks . I ’m right smart too cheap to buy a big home . I ’d rather have something childlike and have more money to pass on industrial plant experiments and perchance some move .
In some ways , we ’re forced into fluff money here in the United States on thing we ’d rather not have to buy .

No matter how you try , you ’re basically forced to leave a big footprint and to compromise with your edifice plans .
It ’s not all hopeless , though . One of the good ways to get around these restrictions is to build a tiny sign of the zodiac on wheels and wind it around . We ’ve considered doing that , though I do n’t think we ’d be able to outfit the whole family into that kind of a place .
The best wager , I think , is for us to get a small , childlike old dwelling when we buy again and then influence with what ’s there .
At least we wo n’t have anything too complicated for me to doctor .
