The talent that is Dolly
This twelvemonth , when we asked Dolly Parton to grace our cover , we have sex we wanted to go full Dolly and adopt all the bows , the ribbons , the gold , the sparkle , the bling . Our covering fire story , attractively written by Jason Sheeler ( on loanword from our sister publication People ) , apportion an insider ’s look into Dolly ’s holiday preparations and how deeply grounding this holiday has been to her since her childhood in Locust Ridge , TN .
I was felicitous to chance on she ’s a maximalist at domicile as well , with Christmas tree diagram in every room , homespun ornaments , and a fondness for Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree skirts and tinsel . “ I ’m flashy . I do n’t endeavor to be fancy . I just attempt to do what makes me felicitous , ” she says . For our photo shoot , a group drive by lensman Art Streiber , set and prop stylist Anthony A. Altomare , and our style film director Jessica Thomas , we thought of Dolly as a gift to our jillion of readers . A bright , sparkling Angel Falls crowning a predominate Christmas tree of gifts ( and our heartfelt thanks to our cover star for climbing to roost on top ) . Besides being one of the most gifted musicians and songwriters in history , Dolly is a uniter — a mortal we can all admire as she enters her 67th year in show job . When I say people she will be the final BHG cover of our 100th anniversary year , almost everyone has the same reaction . They smile , look up , and clasp their hand over their heart . I feel the same . thankful , happy , and looking forward to relieve oneself prescribed change in 2023 .

The best part of the holidays for me is the once - a - year custom . As shortly as there ’s a glimmer of fall weather , I start out eagerly anticipating Christmastime classics — the decorating , picture observation , baking , gift giving , perpetual eating ; I love it all .
And while I might be set in my ways — I depend on day-after-day function to ensureall the thingsget done — there has been flexibility with my traditions . Over the old age , my parents and sib moved across the country . At one decimal point , some of us lived in Alaska , Colorado , Iowa , and Florida , so starting Christmas morning together as we always had was unimaginable . But one delicious family tradition stay on . Someone in each household , no matter how distant , make the same blimp breadstuff formula Grandma used to make ( with vary academic degree of success ) . One snack and each of us is enrapture to those loud , chaotic mornings of Christmases past — some of our most special memory .
Just as Dolly loves making thing “ like Momma used to , ” I too will be cooking as Grandma and Mom teach me and share these tradition with my son on his first Christmas . I go for he like sausage balloon .
