In Tasha Tudor ’s final yr ( 1915–2008 ) , I bought an autographed copy of one of her last books — Tasha ’s Successful Garden ( in Japanese ) . While rare , there is a video from that time ( below ) that offers a lovely glimpse of her garden .

My first encounter with Tasha Tudor ’s garden , or , more accurately , her love of gardens , was through herchildren ’s book illustrations . I never cared much for the level , but , even as a child , I would try any gardens depicted intently . I can not apportion images here because of right of first publication aegis , but you could sure enough see them online or at a local library . I think too , because her Vermont grow zone was similar to my own in Canada , I eff see familiar flowering plant like my mother ’s paeony growing in such abundance . I just knew I had to have my own garden one day .

In the other nineties , several book were bring out sport the gardens , life , and handwork of Tasha Tudor and they were a immense generator of inspiration for me . For two of the books , the combination ofTasha’slifestyle , Richard Brown‘s gorgeous photography , and the composition ofTovah Martin , ( who is still a favorite garden writer and houseplant overzealous ) , was paragon . I never had fantasy of meeting her though , either through a address engagement or garden turn , because , I remember reading that she insisted girls must dress a certain way and there is no means this Empress is redact on a attire or skirt for anyone !

Today , the family carry off the Tasha Tudor acres ( “ Corgi Cottage ” ) and there are sole tours of the home and garden each class . If you are lucky enough to get a ticket , know that television camera and other electronic equipment are not permit on the turn . Because I am so pendent on pic to call in and re - savor experiences like that , I would never need to go . I get so overwhelmed in gardens that I can scarcely absorb what ’s going on ! It would just be frustrating not to be capable to take pictures to go over at house . That state , I understand why they have the insurance : this is their keep and they want to protect it . But , poor me!It would be bully to see . 🙂
