Flowers, potting benches—and ping pong!
Today we ’re off to Durham , North Carolina , to inflict with Mary Zesk Thigpen .
Here are several photos of my garden and railway yard . They are mostly from theshade gardensand side yard given the time of yr .
I take superbia in using a thrust lawn mower and mowing my own lawn , which drives my married man nuts every sentence the neighbors ask why he is n’t allowed to mop !

I desire you love these pic . I am not a photographer ; I just love to play in the grand as a pursuit and a First State - stressor !
This is Mary ’s favorite garden photograph so far this bound : a truly monolithic snowball viburnum ( Viburnumopulus‘Sterile ’ , Zones 3–8 ) loaded down with peak , with all sorts of special plants tuck around it .
Mary ’s husband , Ryan , is an engineer , and he establish the potting post as a birthday natural endowment this past February ! I ’m so jealous . What a fantasticworkspace ! Maybe every gardener needs an engineer as a partner .

Variegated genus Ajuga ( Ajugareptans , Zones 3–10 , probably the miscellanea ‘ Burgundy Glow ’ ) takes center phase , withblue flowersover the coloured leafage .
A marquee in the garden is beautiful and not that unusual , but look more closely — that looks like Ping River - niff table . What a marvellous idea ! There is something for everyone in this garden .

There is something so soothing about a reach of pristine common . I ca n’t believe that Mary mows all of this with a push mower ! That ’s a workout , no doubt to be followed up by a well - deserve rest in one of those inviting garden chairs .
This beautifulrhododendronlooks like it might beRhododendroncatawbiense , which is native to the southeastern United States and so a lifelike choice for a North Carolina garden .
There is something so comfort about a garden surrounded by tall trees .

Hellebores ( Helleborushybrid , Zones 5–9 ) with their iconicearly springbloom .
A arresting mounting uprise looks like it might be the classic climbing arise variety ‘ Joseph ’s Coat ’ .
