The specific name " polythele " ( pronounce pol - lee - THEL - e ) means " many nipples " and refers to the nodule present on the stem .
Mammillaria polytheleis native toMexico . It occurs from Jalisco to Veracruz at elevations that range from 5,580 to 7,870 feet ( 1,700 to 2,400 m ) .
Mammillaria polytheleis acactuswith a cylindrical , solitary stem plow with pyramidal to conical tubercle with clusters of spines at the tips and abundant fleece in the axil . The radical is dull greenish to dark blue - green , commonly vertical or sometimes sprawling , and can grow up to 2 feet ( 60 cm ) tall and 4 inches ( 10 cm ) in diameter . The spines are inadequate , pallid to dark brown , sometimes reddish brown , and can measure up to 0.7 inch ( 1.7 centimeter ) long . Each areole bears 2 to 4 central spines .
