High summer garden beauty
We ’re in Massachusetts today , visiting Tingshu Hu ’s garden . Tingshu has been sharing scenes from her garden at different times of the year . Today we ’ve locomote intoJulyand are looking at the summertime view from herfront garden .
TheCanna‘Striata ’ ( zone 8–10 or as a tender bulb ) begin to bloom in other July . To its right isRosa‘America ’ , plant in earlyMay . It was supposed to take up blossom inJune , but the first bud were pop by thehard freezeon May 19 and so the first efflorescence were delayed by several weeks . After these heyday , a new shoot emerge from the ground and spring up to reach the top of thepergola .
bet across thepatiofrom the west side , beside the center of attention post of the pergolaRosa‘Iceberg ’ also started to bloom withwhite flowers . It was planted at a wrong spot and stayed there for several year , sad and barely survive . When the post for the new pergola was rear , we thought it must be a right place forRosa‘Iceberg ’ and move it there . It really liked the novel cheery waterfront spot very much and put frontward lots of new growth and blossom . At the right - side flower bed , under the Yoshino cherry tree tree(Prunus× yeodoensis , Zones 5–8 ) are somehouseplants revel a summer vacation . Cliviais blooming with orangish flowers , andHoyaalso bears some globe bloom . The pink blossom are rain lily(Zephyranthessp . ) .

Morehouseplantsare growing around the tree trunk of a Yoshino cherry tree . The Queen of the Night cactus’s(Epiphyllum oxypetalum)pink - white flowercontinued to flower in the early morning . The small white flowers are those of a climbing jasmine(Jasminumsambac),and the pink - red flower are crown of thorns(Euphorbiamilii ) .
pinkish rainfall lily flowers(Zephyranthesgrandiflora , Zones 8–10 ) are my favorite ( from childhood memory ) . I keep them in the greenhouseover the winter .
In the front are two pinkTigridia flowers(Zones 8–10 ) planted as anannual . Therosebush with clustering of pink bloom is ‘ Pretty Polly Lavender ’ ( Zones 4–10 ) . The dark - leaveddahliawith purple flowers(Dahliahybrid , Zones 8–10 or as a tender medulla oblongata ) is just start to flower . The white flower of an Iceberg rise peek from the prevention of the pergola . The sunflower(Helianthusannuus , annual ) grow fromself - seedingand get hold a utter post by herself .

This garden bed by the front door feature these flowering plants : dahlia , phlox(Phloxpaniculata , Zones 5–9 ) , burn heart false sunflower(Heliopsis helianthoides , Zones 3–9 ) , ‘ Gold Mound ’ spirea(Spiraea japonica‘Gold Mound ’ , zone 5–8 ) , roses , canna , zinnias(Zinnia× marylandica , one-year ) , and lady ’s mantle(Alchemillamollis , Zones 3–8 ) . The bloodless alyssums(Lobularia maritima , zone 9–11 or as an yearly ) grow from ego - seeding .
Lotus(Nelumbo nucifera , Zones 5–11 ) is grow in apotin front of the door . Two flowers are blossom in the break of the day sun .
