Huernias require apotting mix with excellent drainage . A succulent plant life admixture of 50 per centum pumice or perlite , 25 percent peat or constituent mulch , and 25 per centum George Sand helps prevent rotting andoverwatering . root have dieback in cool - season dormancy , so plants grow well in shallow container that allow the soil to dry out quickly . Using cadaver pot further keep the soil from stick around too wet . An underlayment of coarse crushed rock below the grime mix also ameliorate drainage . A layer of gravel between the works and the ground mixing in climates with damp , cool summers also prevents the stems from staying too moist .

Outdoor plantings do well in raised bed . Huernias prefer lustrous light or partial wraith . In nature , they originate underneath shrubs or other plant . Too much sun induce stem to develop protective reddish or violet pigmentation and can really scald the stems . Too little Light Within leads to unaccented , slender growth with decreased prime production . These plant   grow best between 50 and 80 ° F ( 10 and 27 ° C ) . Protect them from freezing weather .
