Magical Garden Doors with Mirrors

I made this optical thaumaturgy garden artwork after see variation of it on garden tours . It ’s a full - size mirror and gives a squeamish factor of surprisal in the yard .

To get this special force , woods pieces are confiscate to a mirror , with the forest cut at unlike angles to give the head game of an subject doorway or windowpane .

To keep it round-eyed , I have done it without any math or complicated measuring involved .

I ’ll take the air you through how I made it and partake in some tips . The potted plants ( above ) are made from polymer clay . This tutorial shares how to make cheap fairy garden accessories .

This idea could be adapted in all sort of ways to add some magic and mystery to a miniature or fairy garden .

Optical Illusion Design

It looks complicated but it ’s really not . If you have paper , a pencil , and a ruler , you could create this excogitation or one like it . And there ’s no mathematics involved .

For more , see this post onhow I created my full - size optical illusion garden mirror . No matter what size , it ’s all done the same way .

Materials

I have n’t provided a specific template because your design will need to be adapted to whatever sizing mirror you have . While a little square or rectangular mirror would be best , I happened to have a spare round mirror so that ’s what I used .

Cut a bunch of retentive cartoon strip ofbalsa woodfirst , all with the same width , and then you could tailor the specific length needed .

In the photo ( below ) you’re able to see I   used the printout of my diagram ( from this post ) as a pathfinder .

Fairy garden miniatures made from polymer clay.

I place the wood strip over the diagram , and scored them with the cutting brand to indicate where I ask to make cut . This is more precise than using a pencil .

If you require a vibrant colour for the wood , it aid to undercoat it first . I use whiteacrylic wiliness paint .

Keep in mind that all sides of the Mrs. Henry Wood will show , including the backs that will be glue to the mirror . Mirrors are sneak that way , always establish more than we desire .

Again , you will need to cover all sides of the woodwind with paint . Allow blusher to dry thoroughly before continue . Unless you want to mess the whole thing up .

Clean the mirror thoroughly with itch alcoholic beverage or   methyl hydrate   to hit any soil , lubricating oil , or grime .

If need , use painter ’s tape on the mirror to mark where you need to range the balsa wood pieces .

Start with the verboten skeleton , ensuring it is substantial before securing the glue . het glue dispenser gum is not a permanent chemical bond and can be strip down off if you make a misunderstanding . More permanent gum are not as genial . Yes , I know that was redundant .

Because my mirror is rotund , I prefer to frame it in more balsa wood to wait like a wooden rampart .

I blended a compounding of brownish , yellow , and white paints   for the wood paint .

I used a little metal fish charm as a door handle and mount it by glue it to two small bead .

For hinges , you could paste ondollhouse / miniature hingesor supply lilliputian piece of balsa wood and paint them to reckon like hinges .

To expose it , well , you do n’t need me to order you what to do , do you ?

But just in event , this would seem neat in a fay garden , or on a baseboard inside the theatre ( like a mouse door ) , or on the foot of a tree diagram body ( although arborists tell us it ’s not just to attach anything to a tree so let your conscience be your usher ) .

The one thing to keep in intellect is , if you used Ochroma lagopus wood and a het up gum dispenser , it ’s really not pass to hold up outdoors . Best to keep it in a sheltered localisation or indoor fagot garden .
