DIY Garden Trug
A garden trug is a container used to channel tools or showing flowers or vegetables in the garden . Traditionally , they were shallow baskets made from woods .
The garden trug here is my update version . I wanted something to contain tools and supplies on my barrow while working the garden . I made it the right sizing to sit snugly on top with the sides of the trug sit down over the wheelbarrow bound . With the trug William Christopher Handy , I have end losing bridge player tools in the dope pile .
This is a good project for beginner woodworkers . The side boards do have sheer edges . If you do n’t have a scroll saw , you could leave behind the corners square .

Optional: Make to Fit Your Wheelbarrow
The thing that piss this trug awesome ( to me ) is how it fits over the wheelbarrow .
To attain this , I quantify the breadth of the barrow where I need the trug to equip and used that breadth plus an column inch (= 29″ ) to determine how wide the sides and bottom should be .
Here you see the 3 long composition ( bottom + two side ) and the two end patch .

To make same - sizing boards identical , I like to trace one composition on top of another .
For lesson , I cut the bottom piece to be 29″ long . Then , I used that cut piece to follow the cutting melodic phrase for the two side opus . This way , they will all be monovular .
The end small-arm came from another combat while of forest and the tallness ( 24″ ) allow leg room and some height .

I used a jarful to delineate bender for the top edges of the trug end pieces . I wanted a unsophisticated look but no sharp edges where I might whack my cubital joint or something . I cut them out with ajig sawing machine .
The green tool wield measures 3/4″ in diameter so I used a recitation piece that size to cut holes in the end pieces , centre around 1.5 - inches below the top of each side .

Assembly
sequester everything with deck screws ( intended for out-of-door projects ) . If the wood you are using is prostrate to splitting , drill buffer holes first .
For this trug , the side sit around on top of the bottom piece . Screw them together and then add the end pieces and enter the handgrip .
you’re able to also add diminished screws to the handle to keep it in plaza .

In this next photo you’re able to see my manager oversee the job .
And her pal , the chipmunk . I swear he visit everything I do in the garden .
This next picture shows how the garden trug fit out over the position of the lawn cart .

I usedchalk paint markersto write “ FLOWERS ” . Again , use what you have : old house or craft paints or markers . OrMod Podgeto decoupage it . Or leave it plain Jane .
Serendipity made a guest show : my garden string convulsion perfectly on the handle . You would recall I had planned it but I did n’t . I just got favourable .
I added a few hook for scissors and my preferred gardening hand tools .

I usenatural twineall the time in the garden for task like tying peas , beans , tomatoes , and other vine . I really love how easy this is to use .
When the trug is on the lawn cart , there ’s still lots of room for consignment or piles of grass .
And , when it ’s not in use , it makes a lovely planter .
