Wizzie identified this happy small sept on my briery pear tree , the first clip I ’ve seen this worm . This plant started from a lodgings that fell off or I pruned off my container cactus . It fall to the crushed rock “ terrace ” I made for container plant , and rooted .

It ’s a cactus bug , a true hemipteran in the family Coreidae . These guy cable are the nymphs , easier to ensure since they ca n’t fly away . But , she enunciate it was just o.k. to lead them alone , since they do n’t harm the plant , aside from the chlorotic spots . That work for me!If I wanted to get rid of them , she suggest insecticidal soap , neem , or horticultural oils ( though caution in this rut if at all ) . But since they are n’t killer , why should I be ? At this writing , they ’re already live . I have a very relaxed attitude about seasonal reaching . I envision someone will eat them eventually .

The container prickly pear ( which the bugs did n’t touch or just barely ) is planted with mint , believe it or not . Years ago , someone move over me a showtime of mint from his garden , and for expedience , I just jammed it into that quite a little . They get along fine . Its big problem flop now is hail damage .

Beyond , in the hideout bed , is Crinum ‘ Ellen Bosanquet ’ that bloom this week .

Next to the prickly pear tree is a container of zinnias . I love old maid but have a direful time with them in the basis . So I seed or organ transplant a few every summer in a container for the butterflies .

This week , along with butterflies , we got a hummingbird on them , too! Then he went to the turk ’s detonating equipment along the terrace , this flower flopping over the sambac jasmine . We take our breaths and stayed still . Once the hummer get used to us , maybe I can get a picture .

This zinnia is fall through over my container of basil , step from the kitchen .

My patio containers include what I call my “ crappy petunias . ”These old- fashioned one rival even the sambac for aroma , for months on end . But I reckon these have been blooming almost non - stop for two years , since I cart them under the terrace “ nursery ” in winter . I deadhead , but also let some go to seed , to start in new pots or revive old planting when they give up .

Here they are against a slew of multi - colored , implausibly hot edible peppers I got at Zilker Garden Festival many years ago . Again , I protect them in winter , and at this point , it ’s difficult to tell if I have the original works or just its seeded offspring .

Since our patio is our second living room , it ’s fun to have color , redolence , and savor properly up closely , and with mulch on the great deal , the water chores are n’t over the top .

well-chosen July 4th , and see ya next hebdomad , Linda
