Fire Fly tomatoes live up to their All-America Selections billing as 2019 winners. It’s easy to see how these yellow-white fruits earned their name.

When I institute my tomato sow indoors in outpouring , I always check that the industrial plant tags are exact . But by the end of the season , most of the rag are either lacking or weathered beyond being legible .

That ’s why I ’d been look for the patio container of cherry - sized tomatoes to ripen to a rich bolshy before dress them from their grandiloquent vine . When I spotted several bunches near the substructure of the plant that had mature to a beautiful yellow - white , I know I ’d been waiting on the wrong Lycopersicon esculentum .

I checked my records and gain these are theFire fly sheet tomato plant seedssent by All - America Selections to try out in my garden . Fire Fly is a 2019 AAS national winner , and a success in my garden , too .

These Lycopersicon esculentum grow to a perfectly round 1 - inch size of it on undetermined vines that definitely need staking . Even in a magnanimous terrace container , Fire Fly grew over 6 - feet grandiloquent . The tomatoes form on nice gang and really light up when they begin to ripen . I can see where Fire Fly gets its name .

clean and yellow tomatoes have a gustatory modality that ’s different from other colors of tomatoes . They of course have less acid , so the taste is much fruiter . These blank cherry tomatoes have a perfumed taste , with just a hint of real yield , like pineapple plant or Mangifera indica .

I was pleased they met the number of days from transplant to reap at 80 24-hour interval . The works have expert disease resistance and there ’s no fracture or splitting on the tomatoes at all .

The one disappointment is my yield will fall poor of the estimated 500 tomatoes grow in the AAS trial gardens ( 500 ! ) . Maybe some vegetable gardeners will be able to get that kind of production from each plant , but that ’s a big stretchiness for my unretentive - time of year garden .

AAS has its headquarters in Illinois , but the edible winners are trialed in many different area of the country . The organization ’s commission is “ To promote new garden varieties with superior garden performance judged in unprejudiced trials in North America . ”

With so much trialing , vegetable gardeners can be assure they ’ll havesuccess with AAS winner , no matter where they plant . Fire Fly is certainly a tasty and prolific new initiation to the line - up of vegetable winners .
