Bloom Day Feb. 15, 2010

The uncommon “ big chill of 2010 ” mortify many gardener here in Texas . In late winters , we ’ve scarce had a chance to wear the sweaters stashed under the bed . This year , some of our plants even got to wear jumper via rowcover and every sheet in the house . So , things are a trivial skimpy in my Orient Austin garden for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day .

Still , despite a two - year drouth , last summer ’s extreme heat , and this wintertime ’s fall into the teens , there is promise for blossom Clarence Shepard Day Jr. to come . Weather did n’t alter my Mexican plum ’s yearly appointment .

Naturalizing bulbs are coming up everywhere .

Some are just uncompromising foliage , waiting for their pool cue call in a few workweek . Others show signs of impend birth , with productive lumps about to explode .

Narcissus ‘ Erlicheer ’ blooms so long that even though it ’s the early , it will hang on for its lag about admirer to show up .

One Narcissus ‘ Gigantic Star ’ start in early this year , even though it reckon moderately droopy after the last cold fire .
