I notice there has been deficient distribute run on in this blog latterly . I do refer it in passing on occasion , but I seem to have got out of the habit . This simply wo n’t do . I ’ll be putting up a quick post every time I take a cutting , or fraction something , or sow some seminal fluid , hopefully to be followed some calendar week later with news of rooting , or new growth , sprouting and the like . gestate many posts .
Here is post the first .

A month or two back I buy a couple of aster plant , having seen their like in full chat in the gardens at Waterperry . One of them I like a shot divided into two nice chunk . The other , ‘ Star of Chester ’ sit down there for a while , badger me . It had legion trivial emergence around the edge of the pot . ‘ Star of Chester ’ is a tall one , growing to 5 or 6 feet and take shape a somewhat good clump . A dear back - of - the - border doer for some late summer , former fall colour .
Tempting . Asters are one of that happy group of plants that ply easy taking for the skittish propagator . When the clump is institute in the priming coat , it is a simple matter of break in with a knife , a hori - hori , or even a trowel , removing teeny plantlets . They could be plonked straight in the ground , or pot up and put somewhere sheltered to convalesce . This is more or less how the plant expand its territorial dominion if left to its own devices , we are just lending a facilitate trowel , speeding things along . This one was even well-fixed , I just removed it from the pot and carefully tailor out ( hacked ) a few plantlet from the rim of the fairly pot - confine plant .
I was going to wait till the spring but was unable to contain myself , so entice a prospect was it . I pot each up in to a 9 cm tidy sum , John Innes No3 compost with some added gritstone . They are go it up in the heated bench for a little while .

This was a couple of weeks back . This last weekend , I felt the call of the same plant and removed another three in similar fashion . I now have the parent plant , which derive spring will in all probability drop up new growth from the edges , plus six baby . Seven ( so far ) for the cost of one .
I ’ll be back in a while with an update on progression .
