CONCLUSION:
This year we harvested almost 250 % more than we didlast yearin 2012 .
cede , 2012 was n’t a very good yr because ofthe toxic manure issue – but I ’m still quite proud of with the overall results . ( by the bye , the manure trouble was mostly cleared up in 2013 ’s yearly beds after generous applications of biochar . Some of the trees are still crippled , however , and I ’m starting to doubt they ’ll ever recover . )
I ’ll repeat my disclaimer on numbers from last year : our weight unit are approximate ( though based on a lot of notes ) since many affair were eaten in thegarden and never made it to the scale to be weighed . We also didn’tbother weighing most of the salad we consumed – or the edible weeds wemixed into stir - fries .
The food wood made a good jump forward this twelvemonth . Some of the trees added a good 3 - 5 feet of growing , though we are n’t getting many fruit yet other than the periodic fig or kumquat . The blueberries are die to develop with any speed , unfortunately , but the pomegranate and Japanese plum are shoot for the sky . One day our harvest number will be atrociously large thanks to the tree crop . I go for more of them will start expect in 2014 – the recondite mulching and chop n ’ drop program across the half - acre food forest are bound to make a difference .
There will be lots of newfangled and wonderful things to report in the New Year . May your gardens spill over with abundance in 2014 . Personally , I ca n’t wait for spring . If this winter continues to be mild , it ’ll be an amazing year for my citrus tree and other borderline species .
All the ripe ,
